Starknet Rockets 40% as Traders Chase Small-Cap Momentum While NEAR Slides Double Digits

Headline-grabbing move: Starknet's STRK token jumped 40.1% to $0.0687 in 24 hours, the sharpest move among the day's most-searched coins and a signal that traders are rotating hard into smaller-cap layer-2 tokens. The rally pushed STRK, ranked 114th by market cap, into the center of trader attention alongside a cluster of other double-digit movers. Derive (DRV) climbed 27.3% to $0.462, Pyth Network (PYTH) added 11.4% to reach $0.083, and Backpack (BP) rose 8% to $1.17 — all names outside the top 100 by market cap, underscoring how speculative flows are concentrated well beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum right now.

NEAR's reversal: NEAR Protocol, a top-21 asset by market cap, told the opposite story. The token fell 12.2% to $4.82, making it the session's biggest loser among major coins and the most notable decliner in CoinGecko's trending list. The drop is steep for an asset of NEAR's size and rank, and it stands out against a broader market that was otherwise only modestly negative — a sign the selling was specific to NEAR rather than part of a market-wide pullback.

Bitcoin holds steady: Bitcoin itself was little changed, dipping just 0.49% to $82,467.51, suggesting the volatility seen in STRK and NEAR was isolated to smaller-cap and mid-cap tokens rather than reflecting broad risk-off sentiment. Zcash (ZEC), trading at $1,221.73, slipped 1.8%, while LayerZero (ZRO) eased 2.2% to $2.09 — both modest declines compared to the sharper swings elsewhere.

Gainers and losers by the numbers: Among tokens tracked for daily percentage change, Bitway (BTW) led gainers with a 6.7% rise to $1.47, followed by Ondo Finance, up 3.5% to $0.486, and Tether Gold, up 1.5% to $4,192.28. On the losing side, NEAR's 12.2% slide was the day's steepest among ranked tokens, with Pump.fun down 6.7% to $0.00566 and Cardano off 6.2% to $0.2387. Pons also fell sharply, down 12.4% to $0.369, while Quantus dropped 9.2% to $140.93.

The bigger picture: The spread between Starknet's 40% gain and NEAR's 12% loss — two tokens sitting in the same trending-search list — illustrates a market where capital is chasing narrow, high-beta rallies in smaller tokens while larger, more established names face profit-taking or selling pressure. With Bitcoin essentially flat, Thursday's action looked less like a market-wide trend and more like a rotation story, with traders picking distinct winners and losers across the altcoin complex rather than moving in unison.
