Crypto Market Sheds Nearly 4% as Bitcoin Slides Below $80,000

A broad selloff wiped out roughly $103 billion in crypto market value in 24 hours, with Bitcoin dipping under the $80,000 mark that traders have watched closely for weeks.

Crypto Market Sheds Nearly 4% as Bitcoin Slides Below $80,000

The global crypto market capitalization fell to $2.70 trillion, down 3.69% over the past day, according to CoinGecko data. Bitcoin, which still commands 59.5% of total market share, dropped 1.14% to $79,937. Ether's dominance held at 10.45%, with the broader altcoin complex taking the harder hit — Solana fell 2.1% to $99.85, Ethena dropped 5.35% to $0.196, and Lighter slid 6.47% to $2.84. Total trading volume across the market reached $72.9 billion for the day.

Among coins drawing outsized search interest, Axis Robotics stood out for all the wrong reasons, plunging 36.5% to $0.143 even as it remained a top trending name — a sign speculative attention didn't translate into price support. Pearl was the rare trending gainer, up 5.8% to $1.75, while most of the rest of the trending list, including Pons (-8.6%), Lighter (-6.5%) and Venice Token (-4.5%), moved lower in sympathy with the broader market retreat.

On the gainers side, the list was thin and dominated by larger-cap names rather than speculative plays. Pepe led with a 5.06% gain to $0.00000501, followed by LEO Token, up 2.28% to $9.46, and BNB, up 1.35% to $753.91. OKB added 1.17% to $111.39. The muted magnitude of these gains — none above 6% — underscores how little upside breadth existed during a day when the overall market was firmly in the red.

The losers column told a sharper story. Rain tumbled 11.05% to $0.00628, the steepest decline tracked in today's data, followed by MemeCore, down 7.12% to $1.038, and Bitcoin Cash, off 6.35% to $279.78. NEAR Protocol also slid 5.22% to $4.46. BlackRock's tokenized USD fund, BUIDL, was unchanged at exactly $1, as expected for a dollar-pegged instrument, but its appearance atop the "losers" screen highlights how even flat performers stood out against a day when nearly every major token moved lower.

With Bitcoin's dominance holding near 60% even as its price fell, the data suggests altcoins broadly underperformed the market leader rather than offering shelter from the drop. The simultaneous slide across large caps like Bitcoin Cash and NEAR alongside smaller trending tokens like Axis Robotics points to a risk-off day with few pockets of resilience — Pepe and Pearl among the rare exceptions that moved against the tide.
