Crypto Market Falls 2.5% as Binance Works to Replenish Funds After Record $6.3 Billion Hack

Summary

The global cryptocurrency market capitalization stood at $2.63 trillion as of Saturday, down 2.47% over the previous 24 hours, according to CoinGecko data. Bitcoin's dominance held at 59.25% of total market value, with Ethereum accounting for 10.49%. Trading volume across the sector reached $66.46 billion for the day, reflecting active repositioning as traders responded to developments tied to the Binance security breach, in which roughly $6.3 billion in assets were stolen. Binance has said it has replenished about 90% of the stolen funds and is targeting Sunday for resumed withdrawals, with less-liquid tokens accounting for the remaining shortfall.

Among trending tokens, Lighter (LIT), ranked 83rd by market capitalization, gained 14.49% to trade at $3.17. Kinetiq (KNTQ) also posted a double-digit advance, rising 14.01% to $0.576. Super Pepe (SP), a smaller-cap token ranked 867th, recorded the sharpest trending move, climbing 64.29% to just under $0.02, though its limited market footprint makes it more volatile than established large-cap assets. Solana (SOL), the seventh-largest cryptocurrency, slipped 1.16% to $95.76 despite heavy search interest, while Hyperliquid (HYPE) eased 0.68% to $88.56.

Figure Heloc led gainers among larger-cap tokens, adding 3.50% to reach $1.064, followed by Aave, up 2.53% to $135.07. NEAR Protocol rose 2.33% to $4.47, and Pepe, the meme token, advanced 2.06% to $0.00000505. Pump.fun rounded out the top gainers with a 2.02% increase to $0.00423.

On the losing side, MemeCore fell 5.18% to $0.898, the steepest decline among tracked tokens with price movement. TRON dropped 4.13% to $0.309, while Zcash slid 2.93% to $1,254.44, retreating from recent highs. BlackRock's USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund and Circle USYC, both dollar-pegged instruments, showed no price change, consistent with their design as stable-value holdings rather than speculative assets.

The market-wide pullback coincides with broader uncertainty following the Binance hack, which industry participants have described as the largest theft in the sector's history. Stablecoin issuers moved to freeze portions of the stolen funds before attackers could convert them into assets resistant to seizure, according to reporting on the incident. Separately, a cybersecurity incident at blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis exposed non-sensitive customer data, adding to a string of security-related headlines pressuring sentiment. Bitcoin, which marked its 18th anniversary this week, has so far avoided a deeper slide, with one prominent executive noting the asset has "held up better than expected" given the scale of the breach, though he cautioned it remains too early to determine whether a market bottom is in place.
